Bullying Online and other Cyber-safety issues

11/05/2017
It is unfortunate that every year the school has to deal with an increasing number of cases of cyber-bullying or inappropriate behaviour conducted online.  Some of these reported incidents have occurred using illegal Facebook accounts.

Information below from: http://www.facebook.com/help/parents :

Facebook requires individuals to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account.  In some jurisdictions, the age limit may be higher.  Providing false information to create an account is always a violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.  This includes accounts registered on behalf of under 13 year old children by older parties.

If your underage child (child under the age of 13) has created an account on Facebook, you can show them how to delete their account by having them log into their account and following this link: http://www.facebook.com/help/delete_account.

If you would like to report an account registered for an underage child to us, please do so here: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact .  We will promptly delete the account of any child under the age of 13 that is reported to us through this form.

If you have concerns about content that may be on your child’s illegal Facebook account and wish to obtain a copy to discuss with your child before the account is closed further information can be found from the parent help page.

We do take issues of cyber bullying seriously at school though as many of the incidents occur outside of school unless they are reported we cannot follow up on the incidents.  If you have concerns and are looking for more information you can find it on a number of valuable websites including http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/.
